Why should we fight about every issue that is posted? Cant we debate it like mature people? This tendency to fight (and get emotional) over irrelevant issues will not help us any better.
Most of us in this immigration thread are academically oriented. And I believe that this can be attributed to the way in which we were molded in our early life. Most of our parents would stress academic excellence over athletic and artistic abilities. They made all our choices all the way to college and maybe beyond. They would always trump every argument with the statement, "We know what is best for you."
That said, I think the comparison between western and eastern parenting in US is not completely fair. The section of Indians & Chinese immigrants in US are educated and were probably at the top of their classes in their respective countries. They excelled academically and it helped them (us) immigrate and be part of the successful strata of this country. We cannot compare these immigrants with the Western population as a whole. We should compare eastern and western parenting techniques among parents with similar backgrounds.
Successful American families produce successful kids. This is also true for families of all races. Each set of parents have their own method.
Getting greencard is not everything. We have lives beyond the greencard. We have (or will have) kids and have a responsibility towards raising them to give them the best possible skills (academic, artistic & social) to thrive in their lives. And a mature discussion in parenting methods is useful.
I urge everyone of you to make your arguments and highlight relative merits & de-merits. You may also argue whether this discussion has merit or not. But no name calling.

I dont see how they can ascertain whether case is complicated without opening it and doing some analysis. It would be only possible if they just hang a case in between after they open it or else one way is by weight (joking).
They might have a weighing scale and lesser weight of the application simpler it is (HAHAHA)
we can only guess
i would assume cases that are not substitute labor, porting priotity date, cross chargeability, clear birth certificates, clear employer verification letter, no namecheck issues, no fingerprinting issues, etc

WASHINGTON � U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) today announced a preliminary number of nearly 163,000 H-1B petitions received during the filing period ending on April 7, 2008. More than 31,200 of those petitions were for the advanced degree category.
I read this as saying this....
The 163k number includes the advance degree number. So it is 132K for general and 31k for advance

Your employer applies for H1-B, not you. Find an employer who is willing to offer you a job and willing to petition H1-B on your behalf. As long as the H1-B quota is not exhausted and the petition was correctly filed, etc., you will get H1-B.

just spoke with someone yesterday whose PD was april 2005. he files 485 in september 2005 before eb2 retrogressed.
he got his GC in august 2007. now how is that possible when i still see people wth PD of 2004, whose GC is pending. also btw, in august 2007 and in july 2007 the eb2 was U.

I don't know why folks don't emphasis injustice built-in per country quota..
If discrimination is prohibited anywhere else based on persons's national origin why is it allowed to continue in Green Card queue??
We should hammer this point everywhere..
I have spoken abt it and no one can really say any good counter-point..
IF the pain was shared across all the nations, you bet there would be more support across the board..
Also per-country quotas are really relic of pre-1965 European only immigration policy..
Before anything else I would like simple just queue formed.. This is new "Asian Exclusion Law" and that should be #1 target!

Hello everyone,
I have a question abt the recent contributions. Of late i have seen a SHARP drop in contributions. Have we reached a plateau now, or are the contributions not updated live?
Also i have a question abt what the agreement is with QGA. Do they do nothing till we pay the $200k or do they do things in installments (like our immigration lawyers ;)). A lot of non members, but possibly potential contributors keep asking me abt the same. If the board can answer this question i would appreciate it. If you do not want to post that info on here, please send me a Private Message.

On the home page I see 3 Flash and 3 SL-based tutorials that were added recently. Sounds really biased to me.
I have no interest in fragmenting the site by covering new topics that are less designer focused and more for developers. If you want to submit a tutorial, make sure it is Flash CS4 or Expression Blend (WPF / SL) related. Otherwise, I will more than likely turn it down.

We are actively meeting with lawmakers across Southern California in OC, LA and San Diego. New members, please sign in to our local chapter, details are in my signature. Join in on local lawmakers meetings and help in raising awareness of our issues. We have experienced members in our group who can provide guidance and answer all your questions if you have never done anything like this before. Not an expert but my guess is this window of opportunity will exist till next Fiscal year's bulletin is out i.e around 10th sep 2007. If you haven't already filed 485 you are unlikely to be approved during the window. I would go with aggressive approach i.e file based on pending EB2 and upgrade to PP. If you want to be conservtive because you never know if the porting will be accepted or not, or if it may add more delay just file eb3 485 right away, take the beneifts like ead etc.. and later port if retrogressed.
Here's a rather strange and may be uncommon situation for someone I know who needs suggestions from gurus here...such huge PD movements do result in strange situations such as these :)

EB2-140 pending at NSC hoping to port the EB3 PD date
So both cases are now current, which leads to a couple of options for AOS:
1. File based on approved EB3 (and risk a potential retrogression in future)
2. File based on pending EB2 140 before it is approved (and risk potential RFE, etc. and who knows if it would be too late to revert to the EB3)
The other option is to upgrade the EB2 140 to PP, but could you please list the relative merits of the above two options?

I renewed my passport last week, new passport number is different.

My EAD and AP application was received June 19, 2009 at TSC. To my pleasant shocking & surprise USCIS approved mine and wife's application in 20 days and we received the card today.
We are happy with the speed and efficiency USCIS and wish they could do everything the same way. we received two year EAD but concerned as receiving a two year EAD indicates that it may take a while to get my PD (Dec 2005).

Is your question about Approved 140 or Pending 140.
I am also curious to know.
As far as I know, employer has to just send a letter to USCIS with the 140 receipt number which states that they want to revoke it and USCIS will locate the file with 485 and revoke it too.
Bad but what can we do ???????

Every news channel and radio stations is talking abt Bush bringing back teh Immi bill. And I think he will
He will armtwist Congress to pass it like he got the Iraq funding bill passed (w/o plan for withdrawal).....We should have a plan to bring in our ammdts as soon as the bill hits floor again...

Nothing will affect you. You are at the beinging stage of your GC. Donot get tensed or panic .. all will be smooth. I donot think there is any way to to inform DOL. Contact your attroney for any clarification.
