I Remember US companies directly recruiting from India during 1997-99 .This was a very costly affair for the companies. They used to take phone interviews, and then sponsor the H1B for the employee with very high Compensation, pay the tickets for employee and family( usually first class) , give hotel/furnished apartments for 1-2 months, Rental cars etc. This was done when there was a genuine need for the company to hire H1B's as they could not find enough qualified people in US. By 2000 the equation changed and small H1b companies started appearing like mushrooms in most of the big cities who asked for H1B filing fees. Companies were also gaining from this as they have no legal hassle of H1b and the rates were competitive.
I understand taking money from candidates to file H1 is non-sense. I haven't come across any company that does that when I applied for H1. I contacted couple of H1B sponsors. None of them asked for money. I was really happy the way I was treated by my sponsoring company.

And I know a guy (a restaurant waiter from Nepal) got his GC in frikkin 14 months. And this was 5 years ago when I had just applied and now even today mine is still pending and that Nepali waiter who could not speak 4 words in English is now a Citizen and whenever I go to this restaurant for a buffet he keeps laughing at me and he is still a waiter in the same restaurant. I know him for 6 years. I get enraged at this countrys immigration policy. And I have met about 5 cabbies (Somalia, Pakistan, Sudan) etc etc who came here by winning visa lottery. And they are all citizens or GC holders. This is a mockery. This country has finally started to SUCK big time.
what makes you think you are more important to american society than the waiter or the cabbies? we all come to US under full disclosure but a hope that by the time our turn at GC (and Citizenship for those who care) comes - the queues would have shortened or the rules would have changed in our favor and we wont have to wait for so long......

I also think green card lottery, chain immigration, and refugee green cards should be eliminated and those visa numbers should be used for employment based immigrants because all these people can immigrate just like us through employment. We contribute more to the American society and should be given priority. I guess when we become American someday, we would like immigrants who contribute to our community too. Isn't that right? :)

I currently have a job offer from the client .
My previous company has applied in perm as Software engineer , Applications as Job Title and Job Description is PeoplesoftSoft, Peopletools ,SQR
My client would like to hire me as Peoplesoft Developer. but I am expecting a raise in salary of atleast 30%.
Would this be a problem ?
When you say Job description should be more or less same what exactly does that mean. Should it be exactly different or some minor change is ok ?
Help me out as I have to decide on the offer by weekend.

No need to inform INS. I know most of us little concerned to use AC21 for better job and salary but i never heard of anyone (atleast from my circle ) denied GC for changing job.
I encourage everybody who come across good opportunity to go for it. Keep same job description ( atleast on paper).

Holy cow... I cannot believe, I got my green card today...
My online case status changed to card production ordered today (1 hour ago).
I had filed during july fiasco and was not abel to send my medical tests , so had got RFE.
Then i took the medicals and sent the response in july 2009, and the status remained RFE response received for a long time.
I called NSC and opened a service request on Aug 18.
Guys believe me Service Request does miracles, they just approved it now.
So my journey came to an end after 7 years.
If I got green card, the whole credit goes to IV. You guys are really great, learnt a lot from this forum. Kudos to you all...
I will continue to visit these forums and help as much as I can.

It seems to me that there is a discrimination going on with EB3 India. So far there are not many approvals why???? They are trying to suppress this EB3-India category why??? lot of approvals in EB2-India? why??? don't say they are less cases.

Go to India and spend time with your loved ones. Many times that heals things in a magic way !
On your GC situation do these :
1)Send an appeal to your local senator under CC to the Secretary of State, Homeland Security and the President to intervene and do some thing
2)Send an appeal to the Director of USCIS in charge of AOS explaining the situation
3)Consult a good attorney to know the options in the exiting scenario
My entire family will say a prayer for you today at 8 PM. I request all IV members to join the prayers if possible.

Report them to USCIS and blacklist them. They don't get anything by suing you. They have more to lose if you report them to USCIS.

Last year we ran a High Five Campaign and collected $4883 over a period of 4 months. It was a disappointment.
Now as we know the environment is very volatile and lot of things are going against LEGAL Immigrants i.e US (TARP Employer H-1B Restriction Bill (Sanders Bill)), i will like to request everyone to contribute as much as they can. I will like you to contribute a minimum of $20 dollars.
ALL you need to do is write out a $20 cheque and send it to IV on the address listed.

Well.. may be that's the dose of reality core team needs to give to its members and that may wake up non-contributing, non-helping, and just log in to check status type of members. Just come out and say that we are too small of a group with very limited resources and influence on the capitol hill and we can't get any of our goals including non-controversial ones passed unless we have at least XXX number of members and X dollars in contribution. At least this will set the facts straight and members won't have a false expectation on some of these non-controversial measures.
Once that is clear, may be folks who are staying back or hesitating in terms of either contributing or supporting IV in membership increase will realize that it's either time to act or preserve the status quo.
All I am saying is that may be we should make the reality on the ground and rules of engagement clear to all members/non-members so that they can all set only a reasonable amount of expectation from IV under the circumstances unless something drastically changes like the membership or the contribution.
So far, we have piggy-backed on CIR and SKIL both of which were to a large extent driven by corporate interest. If you take these realities into consideration, provisions like 485 etc are not low hanging fruits any more, because we no longer have a stool to stand on. Given the infamous intertia of the lawmakers, introducing our own independent provisions will take a lot more than a membership base of around 6-7K, a contributing base of around 2k and a free-riding/blissfully ignorant base of 900k+.
Unless we become a truly representative organisation of prospective EB immigrants, we cannot take on the combined might of the anti-immigrants and the H1 thristy corporates. Not to be negative, just giving an alternate opinion.

Buddy, it looks like its only you and me remaining who has not received the FP notice. For me its been 30 days since opening SR and nothing. We are the unfortunate ones who have not only not received FP but our application are in TSC , where opening an SR is of no use.
I am July 2 filer (@TSC), still waiting for FP notice. Got I-485 receipt (ND Aug 27), and approved EAD and AP. Did not call for SR yet.
